Alright, I’m just going to say it: Update 37.1 has landed, and my emotional support DMR has been nerfed into oblivion. But before I spiral into a full grief arc, let’s talk about the absurdly cool, slightly gatekept, and occasionally confusing stuff this patch dumped into the Battlegrounds.
First up, the Bugatti container. Imagine dropping into Erangel, Miramar, Sanhok, Vikendi, Taego, Deston, or Rondo and seeing an exclusive Bugatti container sitting on the starting island. Now imagine walking up to it, pressing the interact key, and getting absolutely nothing because you don’t own a Bugatti skin. That’s right — this container can only be unlocked by players who own Bugatti skins. I’m not crying, you’re crying. The upside? If you’re lucky enough to queue with a Bugatti owner, their teammates can operate or ride in the vehicle as long as the owner unlocks it. The catch? The car and container vanish the moment you board the plane. So basically, it’s a very expensive pre-flight flex. Available in Normal Match, Ranked, and Casual Mode for one month only. I’ll be over here polishing my imaginary Bugatti.

Now for the real heartbreak: the DMR rebalance. If you, like me, have spent countless hours treating the Mini-14, SLR, or SKS as a long-range delete button, then you probably felt a disturbance in the force. DMR damage reduced by about 12%. DMR RPM reduced by about 45%, except for the Dragunov and Mk14. The VSS escapes unchanged, because apparently it’s already suffering enough. The devs say this is meant to shake up a meta where DMRs felt like the only viable choice. I mean, were they wrong? No. Am I still allowed to pout? Yes. The goal is to let other weapon combos coexist and create more dynamic engagements. I guess now I have to remember how to use a bolt-action like a functional human. The horror.

Beyond the DMR apocalypse, there are plenty of quality-of-life changes. The Canted Sight has been removed from every spawn spot. I know some of you loved that little angled optic, and I’m sorry for your loss. On the bright side, the Mirado and Food Truck seatbacks now block bullets like other vehicles, so at least my terrible driving has slightly more defensive value. Bots have been improved to act more naturally, which means I can no longer rely on them standing perfectly still while I line up a headshot. Rude. Red Zone instances are slightly shorter, and the initial Red Zone on 8x8 maps appears later. So maybe I’ll actually survive my first three minutes on Erangel now. Also, PUBG x aespa-themed decorations have been removed from every map — my K-pop stan squad is devastated, but the rest of us can finally see the terrain again.
Ranked players, pay attention. Season 37 brings Mk14 weapon skins as permanent Tier Rewards, and the Ranked Play Point Rewards have been adjusted so you get some payoff sooner — 120 Points and 1300 Points, to be exact. The leaderboard resets after live server maintenance, and your previous season’s final Tier is viewable on your Career page. Rewards like the Ranked Parachute skins, weapon skins, and Medals are permanent; everything else is seasonal and will be withdrawn after Season 37 ends. So spend those rewards wisely, or don’t. I won’t judge.
Now let’s talk about UGC Alpha. It’s available for three months until Update 38.1, and now all BATTLEGROUNDS Plus players can create sessions and mess around with new sample modes. That’s right, you can finally stop complaining about lack of content and go build your own chaos.

Then there’s the return of PlayerOmnom’s Battlegrounds, affectionately known as POBG. It’s a top-down pixel shooter where you fight waves of increasingly angry chickens. If you win, say goodbye to Chicken Dinners — because these chickens are fighting back. Enemies and bosses get stronger each stage, and you acquire weapons and skills to survive. New boss Captain Crispy and new enemy Mortar Chicken make their debut. Paramo has been added, and random lava pools will deal damage over time. Matches don’t grant Arcade Points or BP, but honestly, the emotional reward of slaying a boss chicken named Captain Crispy is worth more than BP anyway.

Oh, and for the socially overwhelmed among us: you can now hide chat messages from specific channels. Commands like /ot toggles team chat, /oc toggles clan chat, and /ocm toggles custom match chat. Hidden channels stop showing old and new messages, though your own messages and system messages remain visible. Just remember that the visibility settings reset when the game restarts, so don’t panic when your clan suddenly reappears mid-lobby. I may or may not have hidden clan chat during a particularly heated debate about chicken dinners.
There’s also a brand new Survivor Pass for Update 37.1, so prepare your wallet. Deston lost a few dynamic weather conditions, including Storm, Sunrise, and Clearing Storm — because apparently even weather needs a break. The M79 can now wear Charms, which is exactly the tactical advantage I needed. Steam players will see prices in select local currencies alongside USD, with exchange rates updated monthly, so my bank account can cry in multiple currencies now.
Finally, the bug fixes. Assists in Ranked are fixed for previously eliminated players. Players recalled in Ranked can no longer receive the 'So Close!' medal after winning, which was honestly a bit mean. Deaths from Red Zone bombardments no longer get mislabeled as fall deaths. And my personal favorite: certain transparent waist, neck, and body clipping issues with female character outfits have been fixed. So now I can wear my PAI 2019 Jacket with SEA Champ Training Pants without looking like a ghost from the waist down. Progress!
Overall, Update 37.1 feels like a lot of 'stop relying on one thing' energy — whether that’s DMRs, canted sights, or pre-Bugatti flexing. I’m cautiously optimistic. The DMR nerf stings, but if it means more viable weapon variety and fewer matches where everyone runs the same loadout, I’m willing to adapt. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go practice with a bolt-action and maybe find a Bugatti owner to carry me in squad mode.
